Smart buildings for sustainable Caribbean islands

Germany and the Caribbean islands have already been exchanging ideas on possibilities for the energy transition for three years. Now both countries are setting a new focus: sustainable living and working. After two successful editions of the German-Caribbean Energy conference, the new format Smart Buildings for sustainable Caribbean Islands - Green Tech made in Germany will be added in spring. 

The new format will premier on 24 March with a hybrid edition. Participants can follow the conference live at the Renaissance Convention Center in Oranjestad, Aruba, or online from 9 am to 2 pm Caribbean time. After the opening keynote by Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes, distinguished speakers and experts from Germany and different Caribbean countries will discuss the possibilities and energy saving potential of sustainable buildings.

German Smart Energy House

The German consortium „German Green Technology Hub“ will also be presented. The consortium of several German specialists in renewable energy, energy efficiency and alternative building materials offers housing companies and project developers in the Caribbean ready solutions, complete systems and affordable technology for a variety of residencial and industry building projects.

In addition, the consortium plans to build a Smart Energy House on in the Smart Community Aruba (SCA) as a showcase in the region. The aim is to show how German products and technologies can contribute to reducing energy consumption on Aruba and in the Caribbean in general.  Among other things, the Smart Energy House will use solar and wind energy and be equipped with state-of-the-art cooling, insulation and ventilation systems. The planning is to built this year - in close cooperation with the FCCA and the other stakeholders of the SCA as well as with the support of the German-Dutch Chamber of Commerce.

What to expect

The conference will focus on technology perspectives for hotels, offices, airports and residential buildings. Participants can hear expert panel discussions and join in 1:1 networking sessions with other guests, government officials, world-class experts and leading companies from Germany and the Caribbean.
